VIZ has revealed the second teaser trailer for the anime adaptation of Hirayasumi. The overall aesthetic speaks to an older time, invoking a more nostalgic feel due to the art style. With a gentle guitar melody playing in the background as Hiroto goes about his day, Hirayasumi already has the calm, slice-of-life atmosphere that made the manga such a hit. A key visual of the characters running in the backyard with the line, “Slowing down is the best way to move forward” at the top was also released.
Production +h will animate and produce the adaptation. The studio previously worked on The Orbital Children and Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction. Kei Suezawa (Fate/Grand Order: Camelot – Wandering; Agateram, FLCL Progressive) will take on multiple hats as they will direct, write, and oversee the series composition. Naoyuki Asano (Urusei Yatsura, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, Mr. Osomatsu) will design the characters. Mika Nishimura (Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction, Typhoon Noruda) is the art director. Kaori Sawada (What Did You Eat Yesterday?, When Spring Comes) will compose.
Yuma Uchida will voice Hiroto, the protagonist who is described as a “free spirit.” Mayu Takahashi will portray Natsumi Kobayashi, an aspiring manga artist who is also Hiroto’s cousin. Rikako Aikawa will voice Hanae Wada, a retired school lunch worker who begins to share dinner with Hiroto twice a week.
Written and illustrated by Keigo Shinzo, Hirayasumi launched in Weekly Big Comic Spirits on April 26, 2021 and currently has 10 volumes. The series has received numerous nominations including one for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, “Best Continuing Manga series” at the American Manga Awards in 2025, and “Best U.S. Edition of International Material – Asia” at the Eisner Awards in 2026. Hirayasumi won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 2026.

Hirayasumi will launch sometime in 2027.
