Heated Rivalry scored big at the GLAAD Media Awards.

The hit television show that has won the hearts of practically everyone around the world and shone a light on LGBTQ+ stories was recognized at the GLAAD Media Awards. Heated Rivalry won “Outstanding New TV Series,” beating out Chad Powers, Boots, I Love LA, and Pluribus. Some of the cast including Connor Storrie, Christina Chang, François Arnaud, Robbie G.K., and Nadine Bhabha attended the show. Figure skater Amber Glenn presented the award with director Jacob Tierney accepting the award.

“Making queer art is hard. It’s hard to get it made. It’s hard to get it seen, I think a lot of us in this room know that. We owe so much to the shows that come before us as problematic as some of them may be as those shows laid the groundwork for where we are,” he said.

Based on Rachel Reid’s bestselling novel, Heated Rivalry was written, produced, and directed by Jacob Tierney. Starring Hudson Williams as Shane Hollander, a Japanese-Canadian hockey player, and Connor Storrie as Ilya Rozanov, a Russian hockey player, the story follows the two rival hockey players who, to the public, seem to hate each other, but behind closed doors, start a casual sexual relationship. However, as the years go by, what was meant to be a few instances for sexual release turn into something more.

The TV show, produced by Crave, debuted on November 28 and has received an overwhelming outpouring of critical acclaim and praise for both actors, screenwriting, directing, cinematography, and music composition. The penultimate episode in particular achieved a perfect 10 out of 10 rating on IMDb at one point with the last episode receiving a near perfect score.

A second season was ordered at Crave with filming expected to begin in the summer.

Heated Rivalry Season 1 can be streamed on Crave if you’re in Canada and HBO if you live outside of Canada.
