We’re back in Night City once again.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners teased the characters for the upcoming second season of the hit show, introducing them one by one, before dropping the official teaser. The trailer uses a hard-hitting rock beat which amplifies the action sequences that fans will be treated to. There is little known about the synopsis but a short description says:
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 presents a new standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077— a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge. In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, one question remains: when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?
Diving into Night City for Season 2 are:
- Weak Kingsley (blond with glasses): “Once known as ‘King,’ a veteran Edgerunner at the top of his game, Weak now lives in the shadow of his former glory.”
- D (dark haired in blue): “A Snake Nation Netrunner with sharp technical skills and a sharper hunger for revenge, D hunts the killer who wiped out his clan.”
- Roman Carax (blond with video camera): “A young cinephile in search of real stories in a city that abandoned cinema for braindances. Obsessed with documenting the truth and following the lives of other people.”
- Talia Yang (long pink hair): “hails from the corpo towers… but her heart belongs to chrome and violence.”
The second seasons will be directed by Kai Ikarashi with Studio TRIGGER animating and producing. Masahiko Otsuka will handle the series composition and Ichigo Kanno will design the characters.
The first iteration of the Cyberpunk Edgerunners series aired on September 13, 2022 on Netflix with 10 episodes and followed a street kid named David Martinez who becomes an edgerunner–a cybernetically-enhanced mercenary outlaw–and joins a crew which includes Lucy, Maine, Dorio, Kiwi, Pilar, Rebecca, and Falco. Because of David’s high tolerance for cyberware, he continues to modify his body in order to protect his loved ones and Night City. Cyberpunk Edgerunners is set in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game universe although it is a related to the story in the game itself.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners received critical acclaim and won numerous awards including “Best Anime,” “Best Director,” and “Best Action Anime,” at the Japan Expo Awards. Although the second season will not see the crew from Season 1 return, fans can witness the birth of a new legend.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 comes out on Netflix sometime in the fall this year and will have 10 episodes.
