Chinese Media Covers Valko Controversy as Fans Continue Campaign for Love and Deepspace Character

Love and Deepspace Valko

A significant development in the ongoing Love and Deepspace Valko situation: Chinese media have begun covering the controversy, with at least two outlets—China Reform Daily and Tencent—publishing reports as of July 15, 2026. The coverage is being viewed as a positive step by fans who have been advocating for the character, with one fan noting it marks the first time domestic media have paid attention to demands from overseas fans.

Earlier last month, developer InFold/Paper Games abruptly canceled the launch of Valko, the sixth love interest in the mobile otome game, following backlash from Chinese players. Since the cancellation, international fans have mobilized with the hashtag #ValkoIsLoved, and fans have donated to charities in a show of support.

While the media coverage is a positive development, fans caution that it does not represent any decision from Paper Games regarding Valko’s future. One fan also warned that “Valko antis” on Weibo are reportedly planning to call the websites to report the news articles, leaving uncertainty about how long the coverage will remain available.

“We can’t be sure if they’ll succeed or how long these news pieces will stay up,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “What we can continue to do is not give up and keep speaking out.”

The media coverage represents a shift in the narrative around Valko, but the fight for his release is far from over. Fans continue to campaign with the hashtag #ValkoIsLoved, hoping to sway Paper Games’ decision. This is a developing story.
