Solo Leveling has dropped the opening and ending theme videos to accompany Episode 2.
One of the most highly-anticipated anime of 2024, Solo Leveling, recently premiered on Jan. 6, 2024 and fans crashed Crunchyroll servers at the time. The debut episode did not include the theme videos for the opening and ending songs, but Crunchyroll released the theme videos for “LEveL” and “request” on Jan. 13.
K-Pop band TXT and acclaimed composer Hiroyuki Sawano performed the opening theme song “LEveL.” The theme video contains a strong rock beat and showcases Sung Jinwoo in his weak E-Rank Hunter state before he levels up and shoots up in his power and strength. Various other S-Rank Hunters are featured, who were introduced in the first episode. The theme video also features the showdown between Jinwoo and the Blood-Red Commander Igris.
“Will you accept?” opens up the ending theme song “request,” performed by krage. The ending theme song takes a decidedly different approach and focuses on Jinwoo trapped in what appears to be a facility. Someone always appears to be watching him. The video transitions to him running through a red-lit hallway before ending with him watching as seemingly no one opens a door.
Produced by A-1 Pictures, Shunsuke Nakashige will direct Solo Leveling. Noboru Kimura will oversee the project as the head writer with Tomoko Sudo as the character designer and Hiroyuki Sawano as the composer. Taito Ban will voice Sung Jinwoo (renamed to Shun Mizushino in the anime in Japan), Reina Ueda will voice Cha Hae-In (renamed to Shizuku Kosaka in the anime), Hiroki Touchi will voice Baek Yoonho (renamed to Taiga Shirakawa in the anime), Genta Nakamura will voice Yoo Jinho (renamed to Kenta Morohishi in the anime), Daisuke Hirakawa will voice Choi Jong-In (renamed to Shin Mogami in the anime), Banjou Ginga will voice Go Gunhee (renamed to Kiyoomi Gotō in the anime) and Makoto Furukawa will voice Woo Jinchul (renamed to Akira Inukai in the anime).
Solo Leveling, the original novel written by Chugong and the webcomic adaptation by DUBU, remains one of the most popular action webcomics. The story follows Sung Jinwoo’s journey of becoming the strongest Hunter in the world after he accepts the System’s offer in becoming a Player following his near-death experience. He soon gets thrown into a war against the Monarchs as the powerful beings seek to wipe out the human race. The webcomic ran from March 2018 to December 2021.
DUBU expressed excitement at the prospect of seeing his work come to life in an anime, however the artist died shortly after the anime adaptation announcement, after succumbing to a brain hemorrhage due to chronic illness. A series of side stories, dedicated in honour of DUBU, released in January 2023. Solo Leveling released a spin-off novel series called Ragnarok, written by Daul, which features Jinwoo’s son, Sung Suho who embarks on new adventures. Both the novel and spin-off novel series are available to read on Tapas.
Solo Leveling is available to stream on Crunchyroll. The webcomic series is available to read on Tapas and Tappytoon.
