When the Black Moon Rises Artist Leaves Manhwa Due to Health Reasons

Boryung, the artist behind When the Black Moon Rises, will not return for Season 2, citing health concerns.

The artist for When the Black Moon Rises has decided to leave the manhwa.

As per the announcement on the manhwa’s Kakaopage, dated on Aug. 3, 2023, Daon Webtoon has announced Boryung, who has worked on When the Black Moon Rises as the artist, has left the manhwa and will not return for Season 2 due to health reasons. After discussing it at length with the artist, Boryung and Daon Webtoon have dissolved their partnership amicably.

Based on the original novel by Yoomimi, When the Black Moon Rises began serialization on Feb. 26, 2022. Season 1 concluded on August 27 on Kakaopage but there was a one-month hiatus between Chapter 35 and 36 due to the artist’s health issues. On Sept. 3, the publication released another notice to announce Season 1 would end earlier than expected due to the deterioration of the artist’s health.

When the Black Moon Rises follows Ju Sehwa who is killed after she was framed for treason and imprisoned for five years. Sehwa gets a second at life when a divinity brings her back to life. Now armed with the knowledge of who betrayed her, Sehwa sets out to save her and her family, but finds herself locked in a surprising allyship with the head of the rival Baek clan.
