Viz Media Announces Spy x Family, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Chainsaw Man and More Licenses

Viz Media has unveiled an exciting slate of upcoming licenses for Spy x Family, Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba for their upcoming fall 2023 line-up.

On Feb. 3, 2023, Viz Media revealed, in a series of tweets, a total of 17 new English licenses, including JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Naruto and My Hero Academia:

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 6 — Stone Ocean

Written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 6 — Stone Ocean follows Jotaro Kujo’s estranged daughter Jolyne Cujoh who breaks out of prison to save her father after his Stand ability and memories are stolen.

Sakura, Saku!

Created by Io Sakisaka (Ao Haru Ride and Love Me, Love Me Not), Sakura, Saku! follows Saku who is often regarded as a background character, until a mysterious stranger saves her after she falls ill on the train. Hoping to follow in the stranger’s footsteps, she promises to never ignore people in need, even if they’re strangers.

Mimi’s Tales of Terror

Adapted by the world-renowned horror mangaka Junji Ito, Mimi’s Tales of Terror revolves around a young woman named Mimi who can’t escape the supernatural horrors that follow her. Ito created a manga adaptation from a collection of urban legends.

Spy x Family

Spy x Family: The Official Guide — Eyes Only is a guidebook that reveals all of the secrets of the Forger family. The guidebook will further explore the world, story and main cast of the action-comedy series and include special tribute illustrations, covering volumes one through nine. The book will also contain an interview with mangaka Tatsuya Endo along with other guests.

Viz Media has also licensed Spy x Family: Family Portrait, a light novel spin-off with Aya Yajima writing the story while Endo provides illustrations. The Forgers will set out on five new adventures.

Blade of the Moon Princess

Before Spy x Family, Endo wrote another manga series called Blade of the Moon Princess. The story follows Princess Kaguya Takenouchi who is more interested in enjoying life to its fullest rather than be the ruler. However, Kaguya finds herself sent to Earth after an opposing clan launches a coup, intending to usurp the Takenouchi clan. Suddenly, Kaguya will need to find it within herself to get stronger to take back what belongs to her family.

Naruto

Naruto fans can color to their hearts’ desire in the NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: The Official Coloring Book. The colouring book will contain over 70 illustrations from the anime.

My Hero Academia

Takopi’s Original Sin

Created by Taizan5, whose new series The Ichinose Family’s Deadly Sins started serializing in Shonen Jump+, Takopi’s Original Sin follows an adorable alien named Takopi who lands on Earth to spread happiness. Takopi meets a depressed child named Shizuka and hoping to help her out, he tries to fix things through time travel. Unfortunately, not everything can be solved through time travel.

Fullmetal Alchemist

To celebrate 20 years of Fullmetal Alchemist, a collection called Fullmetal Alchemist 20th Anniversary Book will release. This anniversary book will contain the complete collection of all the short manga along with a new prose story.

Tamon’s B-Side

Created by Yuki Shiwasu, Tamon’s B-Side is a shojo rom-com revolving around an idol and his number one fan. Confident and handsome, Tamon is stealing fans’ hearts with his shiny looks, including Kinoshita Utage’s. However, it turns out he has a very different side to him that he takes care to not show to the public.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Conceptualized by Koyoharu Gotouge, the mangaka of the main series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, with story and art by Natsuki Hokami, comes Demon Slayer: Kimetsu Academy. While not as dangerous as fighting demons, Tanjiro and his friends still have their work cut out for them as they head for something perhaps more perilous: school.

Along with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu Academy, Viz Media will also license Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — Corps Record, created by Gotouge. The fan guidebook will include never-before-reprinted bonus manga.

Jujutsu Kaisen

To accompany the successful first season of Jujutsu Kaisen, Jujutsu Kaisen: The Official Guide Anime Season 1 offers fans a behind-the-scenes look on the anime adaptation, from storyboards to voice actor interviews.

#DRCL: midnight children

Based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula comes #DRCL: midnight children. Written and illustrated by Shin-ichi Sakamoto, the story revolves around a tomboy named Mina Murray who is often bullied by her male classmates due to how smart and athletic she is. During the day, Luke Westenra is a frail and standoffish young man but at night, he turns into Mina’s best friend Lucy.

Neighborhood Story

Created by Ai Yazawa (Nana) from 1995 to 1998, Neighborhood Story follows Mikako Kōda who dreams of becoming a fashion designer and attends a special arts school with her next door neighbour Tsutomu Yamaguchi. Although both of them deny that they are anything but friends, their feelings undergo a change as they grow older.

Chainsaw Man

Part 1 of Chainsaw Man will be available for fans to purchase in this 11-volume box set. The first arc contains 97 chapters and follows all the trials and tribulations of Denji’s journey from sharing a piece of bread with Pochita to his first job as a Public Safety Devil Hunter. The box set also includes an exclusive double-sided poster.
