Viral Hit will be adapted into a live-action television series.
WEBTOON has announced that the webcomic written by Taejun Pak and illustrated by Kim Junghyun will receive a live-action series adaptation with Ouji Suzuka starring as Kota Shimura (Yoo Ho-bin in the original series). Ai Mikami, Araki Sugou, Mieko Harada, Nana Asakawa, and Takuro Osada will also star. A teaser trailer opens with Kota being tormented by bullies at school and plagued by worry at home as he cares for his sick mother.
He happens across a viral video of a classmate fighting and an idea sparks in his mind: fighting can make him money. He decides to start a streaming channel in the hopes that he can earn enough money to save his mother and hopefully change his life around.
Hideku Takeuchi directs the live-action with Yuichi Tokunaga writing the scripts. Naoto Inaba and Shigeji Maeda will produce from RAKUEISHA.
Viral Hit was selected as a “Jury Committee Recommendation” at the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival in the Manga Division and has also gained a large following with 460 million views, cumulating to two billion views globally. The series was also the top webcomic that male LINE Manga readers wanted to see adapted into an anime. And that it did. An anime adaptation of Viral Hit was streamed on Crunchyroll back in April 2024 for 12 episodes.
The webcomic launched on the English platform on October 12, 2020 and concluded on May 20, 2024 with 218 episodes. The series has garnered 131.3 million views as of this article’s writing.
Viral Hit premieres on Netflix worldwide on May 28. The series is available on WEBTOON.
