Toei Animation Restructures One Piece Anime Production Schedule Starting in 2026

During a special One Piece livestream event in Japan on October 28, Toei Animation announced a major change to the long-running anime’s production schedule. Beginning in 2026, the One Piece anime will air a maximum of 26 episodes per year, divided into two cours, marking a historic shift for the iconic series.

The news was revealed by One Piece series producer Ryūta Koike during the global stream on the official One Piece YouTube channel. Koike explained that the new schedule—launching with the highly anticipated Elbaph Arc—is designed to enhance the show’s quality and align it more closely with Eiichiro Oda’s original manga.

“This change was a strategic decision to support the advancement and evolution of the anime series,” Koike said.

Previously, the anime aired year-round, often catching up to the manga’s storyline. Under the new structure, each cour will include more refined pacing, additional content, and the kind of dynamic storytelling that animation uniquely enables.

Toei confirmed that One Piece will go on a three-month production hiatus from January to March 2026, before returning in April 2026 with Cour 1 of the new schedule. During the break, fans can still look forward to World of One Piece events and new content related to the franchise.

The announcement was part of a one-hour broadcast co-hosted by Hiroyuki Nakano, One Piece Media’s Editor-in-Chief, alongside Koike. The event also featured updates on the One Piece manga, upcoming anime projects like One Piece Heroines, marketing collaborations, and global fan experiences—from One Piece-themed sports partnerships with the LA Lakers and BVB to recent appearances at New York Comic Con.

First airing in 1999, One Piece has become one of the most successful and enduring anime series in history, with over 25 years of adventures following Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Crew on their quest for the legendary treasure. Beyond the anime, the One Piece franchise includes 15 feature films, multiple games, a trading card game, and a vast lineup of global merchandise and live events.

With its new production schedule, One Piece enters a fresh chapter that prioritizes storytelling depth, animation quality, and creative evolution—ensuring the Straw Hats’ voyage remains as legendary as ever.
