So this is what death by book cover looks and feels like.
Seven Seas Entertainment revealed a new danmei cover this week and they apparently concluded that January blues wasn’t sad enough and fans needed to be emotionally and psychologically harmed. The third cover of Thrice Married to a Salted Fish showcased the Great General Gu Fuzhou kneeling in the snow as he bleeds out from the wounds he suffered. Surrounding him are flaming arrows as he gazes out at nothing. Mio illustrated the cover and Mulliga K. illustrates the interior artwork. Mimi, Huayu, and Eli are translating the series.

Written by Bi Ka Bi, Thrice Married to a Salted Fish is a fan favorite danmei that was licensed by Seven Seas in October 2024. “Salted fish” is a Chinese metaphor for someone who doesn’t do much except laze around. As painful as Vol. 3’s cover is, the title was pretty clear about what was going to happen: Lin Qingyu was going to marry his beloved salted fish three times.
Lin Qingyu is an aspiring physician who has spent the last decade devoting himself to his craft, working tirelessly. Those 10 years of study and research are all for naught when he’s forced into an arranged marriage with Lu Wancheng, the sickly son of the marquis. Lin Qingyu is devastated but when he meets his new husband, he realizes Lu Wancheng is bright and has an idea to help Lin Qingyu fulfill his dreams.
Vol. 3’s synopsis is as follows:
Beautiful, devious imperial physician Lin Qingyu has reunited with his husband, Gu Fuzhou. That leaves Lin Qingyu plenty of time to work against his archenemy, Crown Prince Xiao Cheng. Soon, Lin Qingyu uncovers Xiao Cheng’s deepest secret—one that could ruin the prince. Yet the only piece of evidence Lin Qingyu can put forward is a purple silk belt. Could such a humble item really interfere with an ascension to the throne, or will Lin Qingyu’s loathing of Xiao Cheng lead him to overplay his hand?
Gu Fuzhou likewise faces a daunting choice as Great Yu continues to fight a war in the northwest, and the nation’s troops face increasingly grueling and grim circumstances. Everyone in court—and in the northwest—understands that victory is only possible if Great General Gu returns to the front. But Gu Fuzhou barely survived his last tour of duty. Does he dare leave the capital for the northwest, knowing that Lin Qingyu could be widowed again?
Vol. 3 of Thrice Married to a Salted Fish comes out on June 16.
