The Apothecary Diaries Introduces Jinshi in Eye-Catching Trailer

The Apothecary Diaries will premiere sometime in October 2023.

Fans can hear Jinshi’s voice for the first time in a new trailer of The Apothecary Diaries.

The Apothecary Diaries revealed a new PV for the anime adaptation, announcing a release window of October 2023. The trailer showcases more of the playful interactions between Maomao and Jinshi, an influential eunuch in the palace with Maomao trying something before declaring it was poison. Takeo Ōtsuka (Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari and Oshi no Ko) will portray Jinshi with Aoi Yūki as Maomao.

The Apothecary Diaries also released a gorgeous new visual with Maomao having a hand up to her face, a smile curling her lips. A flower ornament decorates her hair, a crystal droplet hanging delicately above her iridescent eyes. At the side reads “This is poison.”

Written by Natsu Hyūga and illustrated by Touko Shino, the light novel series The Apothecary Diaries began online serialization in 2011 before Shufunotomo acquired the series and began publishing it as a light novel series in 2014. Toho Animation Studio and OLM will collaborate to release the anime adaptation with Norihiro Naganuma as the director.

Set in a fictional version of ancient China, the series follow Maomao, a young pharmacist who is kidnapped and sold to the imperial palace as a servant. Despite her efforts to remain inconspicuous, Maomao draws attention to herself when she successfully figures out the reason why the emperor’s children are ill. In the process, Maomao also grabs the attention of Jinshi, the palace eunuch.

The Apothecary Diaries will premiere sometime in October on Crunchyroll. Square Enix has licensed the manga in English with J-Novel Club as the English licensor for the light novel.
