The Apothecary Diaries light novel series, written by Natsu Hyuugam, featuring illustrations by Touko Shino, announced it would receive an anime adaptation with an estimated premiere window set for later this year.

The anime will have Norihiro Naganuma (The Ancient Magus’ Bride) helming it at Toho Animation Studio. Aoi Yuki, best known for voicing Lucy in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Madoka Kaname in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, portrays Maomao, the series’ lead character.

An unassuming girl who lives in the rear palace, Maomao becomes the lady-in-waiting to the Emperor’s favorite consort, serving as a food tester to ensure the lady’s food is poison-free. All Maomao wants is to lead a quiet life, but her insatiable curiosity and quick powers of deduction push her toward adventure.

No further information is available at this time. However, anime fans excited about The Apothecary Diaries can get a head start on the adventure by reading the light novels available through J-Novel Club.
