Spy x Family fans can expect to see more anime-original scenes for the upcoming second season of the hit anime.

Takuya Eguchi, the talented voice actor behind the indomitable Twilight, sat down for an interview with Kotaku during Anime Expo 2023. The first season of Spy x Family included an episode where it expanded on a brief scene in the manga into a full-fledged battle sequence between Loid and Yor. Eguchi revealed the second season would, likewise, include more original scenes, although he couldn’t disclose what original scenes fans could expect. “I actually haven’t started recording my lines yet, so I’m also looking forward to what I’m going to see too,” he said.

In Season 1 of Spy x Family, Episode 5 “Will They Pass or Fail” adapts Chapter 6 in the manga. To celebrate Anya’s successful entry into Eden Academy, Loid asks what she wants as a reward. Encouraged by Franky, Anya requests that Loid reenact a rescue scene from her favourite show Spy Wars. The scene itself is rather short in the manga and has Anya using makeshift everyday items to create her “prison,” but the anime goes the whole nine yards. Using Operation Strix as an excuse, Loid asks WISE to rent out an entire castle and the WISE agents even take part in the cosplay. The episode was well-received by fans and Eguchi also revealed this episode was one of his favourites.

Wit Studio and CloverWorks collaborated to produce the anime adaptation of Tatsuya Endo’s best-selling manga series Spy x Family. The story follows a spy named Twilight who has been tasked with a mission known as Operation Strix. The objective: he must create a family and have his child enrolled in Eden Academy so he may get close to Donovan Desmond, a man who has the power to tip the world in a state of war.

The first season aired in April 2023 for two split cours for 24 episodes. Kazuhiro Furuhashi directed and wrote the first season with (K)now_Name as the composer. Voicing alongside Eguchi is Saori Hayami who portrays Yor and Atsumi Tanezaki who voices Anya. Spy x Family garnered praise for the voice actors as well as its humorous and heartwarming storyline.

Season 2 of Spy x Family will air in October 2023. Season 1 is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
