Solo Leveling Drops Exhilarating New Trailer and January 2024 Premiere
Solo Leveling has (finally) dropped a new trailer. Fans will meet the weakest Hunter of all mankind in January 2024.
Solo Leveling will air in January 2024.
Announced at Aniplex 2023, the highly-anticipated anime adaptation of the popular webcomic Solo Leveling has finally revealed a new PV and key visual. The trailer introduced more Hunters as well as Jinwoo’s family, whom he has been fighting for all this time. Jinwoo’s life is changed when he enters the Double Dungeon and meets a formidable opponent. On the verge of dying, Jinwoo begs for a second chance. When he awakens, he realizes he has now become a Player and has the ability to get stronger, or “level up,” without seemingly any limitations to his power.
The new key visual showcases the two versions of Sung Jinwoo: the scrawny and weak Jinwoo seated on a pile of dead monsters and the levelled-up Jinwoo who confidently stands on top of the mass grave. Both are holding daggers as they stare resolutely outwards. Standing at the top of a crumbling building is a mysterious figure with a long cape.
Produced by A-1 Pictures, Shunsuke Nakashige will direct Solo Leveling. Noboru Kimura will oversee the project as the head writer with Tomoko Sudo as the character designer and Hiroyuki Sawano as the composer. Taito Ban will voice Sung Jinwoo (renamed to Shun Mizushino in the anime), Reina Ueda will voice Cha Hae-In (renamed to Shizuku Kosaka in the anime), Hiroki Touchi will voice Baek Yoonho (renamed to Taiga Shirakawa in the anime), Genta Nakamura will voice Yoo Jinho (renamed to Kenta Morohishi in the anime), Daisuke Hirakawa will voice Choi Jong-In (renamed to Shin Mogami in the anime), Banjou Ginga will voice Go Gunhee (renamed to Kiyoomi Gotō in the anime) and Makoto Furukawa will voice Woo Jinchul (renamed to Akira Inukai in the anime).
Solo Leveling, the original novel written by Chugong and the webcomic adaptation by DUBU, remains one of the most popular action webcomics. The story follows Sung Jinwoo’s journey of becoming the strongest Hunter in the world after he accepts the System’s offer in becoming a Player following his near-death experience. He soon gets thrown into a war against the Monarchs as the powerful beings seek to wipe out the human race. The webcomic ran from March 2018 to December 2021.
DUBU expressed excitement at the prospect of seeing his work come to life in an anime, however the artist died shortly after the anime adaptation announcement, after succumbing to a brain hemorrhage due to chronic illness. A series of side stories, dedicated in honour of DUBU, released in January 2023. Solo Leveling released a spin-off novel series called Ragnarok, written by Daul, which features Jinwoo’s son, Sung Suho who embarks on new adventures.
The Solo Leveling webcomic is available to read on Tappytoon or Tapas. The anime will premiere in January 2024 on Crunchyroll.
