Solo Leveling, the original novel written by Chugong and the webcomic adaptation by DUBU, remains one of the most popular action webcomics. The story follows Sung Jinwoo’s journey of becoming the strongest Hunter in the world after he accepts the System’s offer in becoming a Player following his near-death experience. He soon gets thrown into a war against the Monarchs as the powerful beings seek to wipe out the human race. The webcomic ran from March 2018 to December 2021.

DUBU expressed excitement at the prospect of seeing his work come to life in an anime, however the artist died shortly after the anime adaptation announcement, after succumbing to a brain hemorrhage due to chronic illness. A series of side stories, dedicated in honour of DUBU, released in January 2023. Solo Leveling released a spin-off novel series called Ragnarok, written by Daul, which features Jinwoo’s son, Sung Suho who embarks on new adventures. Both novels are available to read on Tapas.
