Run Wild Vol. 3 Foreshadows Uncertainty and Heartbreak

Run Wild editor, what do you mean, “hearts divided”? How could you say that when the cover has Jiang Cheng and Gu Fei holding hands and looking so happy?

Seven Seas delivered a double whammy of a cover reveal on Friday when they unveiled the cover for the fifth volume of Run Wild: Sa Ye. Jiang Cheng and Gu Fei have finally graduated and moving on to the next stage of their life and relationship. The cover, illustrated by Tayue Jin, features a soft sunset background as Jiang Cheng happily pulls his boyfriend, Gu Fei, by the hand. Jiang Cheng has a little green rabbit on his shirt. Ding Yue Rong provides the interior illustrations. amixy and Nande M handle the translation for the series.

Written by Wu Zhe, Sa Ye follows the story of Jiang Cheng, a youth who is sent to live with his biological father–a deadbeat gambler who emotionally abuses his son. After arriving in the city with all of his worldly belongings packed into a single suitcase, Jiang Cheng runs into Gu Miao and her brother Gu Fei, a teen boy his age who seems to harbor his own dark secrets. As they remain in each other’s orbit, more than friendship blossoms between the unlikely duo.

Sa Ye had a manhua adaptation that abruptly ended at Chapter 146 in February 2025. The popular high school danmei also announced an audio drama, a donghua, and a live-action adaptation with the live-action renaming it to Chasing the Light but both the latter projects have been in a state of forever limbo.

Seven Seas describes the synopsis of Volume 5:

With high school behind him at last, Jiang Cheng is excited to start a fresh chapter of his life at university. After months living out of each other’s pockets, though, how will he and Gu Fei survive with only calls and texts to rely on?

And the distance between them isn’t just physical. Jiang Cheng is studying at a top school to become a lawyer, while Gu Fei has no choice but to stay with family in his old neighborhood, where his sister needs him more than ever. Jiang Cheng’s new life in the big city seems worlds away. Are their paths diverging for good?

Vol. 5 of Run Wild: Sa Ye releases on June 2.
