Netflix revealed a chilling key visual for the South Korean live-action television series, loosely adapted from Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga series Parasyte. Parasyte: The Grey premieres on April 5, exclusively on Netflix, and will air until June. Yeon Sangho, who is known for directing Train to Busan and Peninsula, will direct and write the script along with Ryu Yongjae who also worked on Peninsula with Yeon.
Jeon Sonee stars as Jeong Suin, a young girl who becomes an unwilling host to a parasite. Koo Kyohwan plays Seol Kangwoo who has dedicated his life to hunting down the parasites and finding his sister. Lee Junghyun plays the leader of Team Grey Choi Junkyung. Kwon Haehyo and Kim Inkwon have also signed on to the television series.
The premise of Parasyte: The Grey comes out of Iwaaki’s original manga series but will feature a whole new story and new characters. Iwaaki’s series focuses on a high schooler named Shinichi Izumi who, similarly to Suin, enters a bizarre cohabitation with the parasite who takes up residence in his right hand. Izumi and Migi, the parasite, work together to fight the other parasites whose only goal is to eat humans.
Parasyte has been adapted in an anime series called Parasyte -the maxim- which aired from October 2014 to March 2015. The story has also been adapted into a film series with Takashi Yamazaki directing and Shota Sometani starring as Izumi. The first part premiered in November 2014 with the second part in April 2015.
Parasyte: The Grey airs on April 5, 2024 on Netflix.
