Painter of the Night will take a break and return in August due to creator Byeonduck’s health.
Painter of the Night will go on a one-month hiatus and return in August.
Byeonduck, the creator behind the hit historical BL webcomic, posted a note on July 7 to announce Painter of the Night will go on a break for approximately a month, meaning Chapter 119 will release sometime in August. The creator explained they had undergone surgery but almost immediately after, began working on Painter of the Night without giving themselves enough time to recover. As a result, their leg’s condition had not improved, leading to them experiencing severe fatigue. “I should have resumed the comic after a full recovery, but I didn’t,” Byeonduck stated in their note. “That’s my fault. I’m sorry.”
In addition, Byeonduck hinted that Painter of the Night was nearing its finale. “Going into hiatus when the end of the story is right around the corner makes my heart heavy,” they wrote. “I know you [the fans] must be disappointed, but I do hope you will be there to see the end of Seungho and Na-kyum’s story.”
Unfortunately, Byeonduck’s health problems are not unusual in the industry. In a survey conduced by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, the results creators were more like to be diagnosed with anxiety, depressing and sleeping disorder if they received negative comments. Numerous webcomic creators have cited debilitating health issues as a result of overworking themselves, including muscle disorders and other health issues as a result of sitting for long periods of time.
Written and illustrated by Byeonduck, Painter of the Night remains one of the most popular BL series on Lezhin Comics. The series revolves around the relationship between the tempestuous Lord Seungho who becomes interested in the lowborn Baek Nakyum who paints erotic paintings of men under a pseudonym. Season 4 of Painter of the Night premiered on Feb. 17 and follows directly behind the shocking conclusion of Season 3. In Season 4, Seungho wrestles with his desire to protect Na-kyum while the latter suffers from PTSD and his anxiety. Meanwhile, Seungho’s treacherous father sets the pieces in motion in his quest to take his son down.
