Oshi no Ko Illustrator Makes Chainsaw Man Trend in the Manga
Illustrator Mengo Yokoyari paid homage to Chainsaw Man by making him trend in Oshi no Ko’s manga.
Chainsaw Man has a fan in Oshi no Ko‘s illustrator Mengo Yokoyari. In a reminder tweet posted by the Twitter account epppyyy, Yokoyari was revealed to have taken a break from reading the manga after a “particularly intense chapter.” However, most notably, eppy pointed out that the entertainment industry-inspired manga Oshi no Ko includes “real life” scenarios. An example of inclusion is when the characters began trending on what bears an uncanny resemblance to Twitter.
In addition to Oshi no Ko‘s character’s Ai, B-Komachi, Ruby and Aqua trending, “Chainsaw-san” was included as number three in the viral topics in Japan. “Chainsaw-san” presumably refers to Denji in his Chainsaw Man form rather than a reference to the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto.
Written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, Oshi no Ko follows the story of beloved Ai Hoshino and tells of the dark side of Japan’s entertainment industry. After finding herself pregnant, Ai visits gynecologist Gorou Amemiya. Unfortunately, on the night Ai gives birth, Amemiya is murdered and reincarnated as one of Ai’s twins!
Viz Media publishes the English edition of the manga, while the anime streams exclusively through HIDIVE.
