Netflix dropped the highly-anticipated trailer for its One Piece live-action during its annual TUDUM event.

Fans were treated to an aerial shot of the Going Merry early in the video, as Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) approaches it before reaching out to touch the boat’s mast. He goes on to muse on his dream of becoming King of the Pirates before viewers are introduced to the direction-impaired Roronoa Zoro, portrayed by Mackenyu. In addition to the cheerful Luffy and awe-inspiring Zoro, Netflix provided a look at other fan-favorite characters, including Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Gibson) and Sanji (Taz Skyler).

Other than previewing the Straw Hat Pirates, the trailer provided visuals for the series’ settings and the impressive practical and CGI work, such as Luffy’s Gum Gum Pistol, that went into bringing the live-action to fruition.

One Piece began as a manga by Eiichiro Oda, first published in 1997 as a serial in Weekly Shōnen Jump. As of March 2023, the series has over 100 tankōbon and stands as one of the best-selling manga of all time, with volumes ranking on Oricon’s charts annually since 2008, when it first launched. It has gone on to receive other media adaptations, including an anime series, 15 films and even a trading card game.

Netflix’s live-action adaptation will set sail on August 31. As fans wait for the live-action to drop, they can catch up on the manga through VIZ’s Shonen Jump app or the anime on Hulu, Crunchyroll or Funimation.
