If you tried to explain the plot of Case File Compendium to anybody, it’d be hard to know where to start.
Because yes, there are now mecha horses in the story. And they’re front and center on the Vol. 8 cover of Case File Compendium. The burning building in the background is probably an accurate representation of the chaos and confusion casual danmei fans and new readers of Case File Compendium are feeling. The cover was designed by the talented Wil who will also provide the interior illustrations. Ben Bingham translates the series.

This is Meatbun’s third danmei series after The Husky and His White Cat Shizun and Remnants of Filth and is the first modern/sci-fi series they’ve written. The story follows rich, handsome, and mentally unstable He Yu who is determined to win the object of his affections’ heart, Xie Xue. Unfortunately for him, what stands in his way is Xie Xue’s brother, Xie Qingcheng who was always once He Yu’s doctor. Xie Qingcheng is the only person who truly understands He Yu and, because of that, is convinced that He Yu is incapable of love.
Seven Seas describes the synopsis of Vol. 8 as below:
Now assisting the Dreambreaker task force, Xie Qingcheng has steeled himself to oppose the man who was once his lover. He has watched the long-missing He Yu triumphantly return as the head of He Pharmaceuticals, but he knows that He Yu is secretly working for the Mandela Syndicate—the shadowy organization whose machinations have underpinned every crisis he and He Yu have faced.
Xie Qingcheng knows his betrayal has broken He Yu, and he’s all too ready to believe He Yu’s love for him is a thing of the past. But when Xie Qingcheng finds himself trapped on the Mandela Syndicate’s hidden island, he has no choice but to put his fate in He Yu’s hands.
Vol. 8 of Case File Compendium: Bing An Ben comes out on May 12 and maybe then… everyone will know what those horses mean and why everything is on fire. Or not. Who knows?
