Kadokawa uploaded a “Direction & Animation” video for My Happy Marriage in a short five-minute video, disclosing the thought and intention behind each scene. This is the first instalment of a documentary series.
Director Takehiro Kubota described how he created contrast with Miyo and Kiyoka’s first meeting. “I purposefully aimed for the end of Episode 1 to showcase Miyo and Kiyoka’s first meeting, peaking at Miyo being smitten by him.”
Layout & keyframe animator Chihiro Takahashi who lays out the blueprint of the anime, discussed the process of how they time things as well as any photography effects and lighting that needs to go into the final product. They discussed one particular scene of zooming into Miyo’s eyes where they found it difficult to get the timing correct. “I felt it was different from the timing I was expecting, so I had trouble with it even during the rough keyframe stages.”
In-betweener Mai Iwata, who draws the frames that fill the gaps between the keyframes. They discussed the process of drawing the in-betweens that will seamlessly join the frames together.
