Move over, Dexter—there’s a new parent with a secret life coming to K-Drama. The hit Kakao Webtoon A Bona Fide Killer, known for its gripping blend of domestic life and deadly suspense, is officially being adapted into a drama starring Gong Hyo-jin (When the Camellia Blooms) as Yoo Bo-na, a devoted mom by day and ruthless assassin by night.

Joining her is Jung Joon-woon as Bo-na’s husband, Kwon Tae-sung—a social affairs reporter chasing the truth without realizing it’s hiding in his own home.

Since its debut in 2020, A Bona Fide Killer has amassed over 170 million views and even snagged the Grand Prize at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s 1st World Webtoon Awards last year. Behind the series are writer Yoon and illustrator Geomdung, two powerhouse creators who’ve crafted a world where domestic bliss meets heart-stopping danger.

The story follows Yoo Bo-na—once a legendary sniper known as “Kingfisher”—who returns to her old line of work after a three-year parental leave. Balancing diaper changes and deadly missions, she hides her true identity from her husband while navigating sharp-eyed in-laws and suspicious police officers.

Yoon revealed that the idea for A Bona Fide Killer came to her while doing dishes:

“I wanted to contrast life and death. Initially, I thought of a doctor who saves lives as a killer’s profession, but a ‘mother’ who brings life seemed more dramatic.”

When A Bona Fide Killer began, webtoons featuring married women as protagonists were rare. Yoon, newly married at the time, said she wanted to challenge that.

“ I didn’t like the feeling of being pushed out of the protagonist’s seat just because I was married,” she said. “I wanted to create a story where a married woman stands as the ‘subject.’”
