Mo Dao Zu Shi Donghua Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

Mo Dao Zu Shi is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a beautiful illustration of Wangxian.

Great news! Wei Wuxian has died, come back to life and is now celebrating his fifth anniversary with the love of his life.

To celebrate the five year anniversary since the airing of the donghua adaptation of Mo Dao Zu Shi, a new illustration has blessed fans’ eyes and posted on Weibo. Illustrated by Shen Lin, the illustration features Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji standing close together under a full moon. Wei Wuxian twirls Chenqing in his hand while his other holds Suibian. In a rare show of visible emotion, Lan Wangji has the slightest smile on his face.

Produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures and B.C May Pictures, Mo Dao Zu Shi premiered on July 9, 2018 for 15 episodes, concluding on Oct. 6, 2018. The donghua aired a second season on Aug. 8 to 31, 2019 for eight episodes with a third season airing from Aug. 7 to Oct. 16, 2021 for 12 episodes. The donghua has garnered positive reception for the adaptation of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu’s bestselling novel series. Zhang Jie voiced Wei Wuxian while Bian Jiang portrayed Lan Wangji.

At one point in time, Wei Wuxian had been regarded as a brilliant and talented cultivator with rather unconventional ideas. Then, he became the most detested and feared cultivator after he walked down the path of demonic cultivation in order to counterattack against the powerful Wen clan. After he was killed, it seemed like the world had gone into a period of peace until 13 years later, a man named Mo Xuanyu sacrificed his body, thus summoning Wei Wuxian. Although Wei Wuxian had every intention to live peacefully without drawing attention to himself, a case about a ghost arm pulls him back into events from 13 years ago and the man whom he once thought was his enemy.

Mo Dao Zu Shi is available to stream on YouTube and Viki.
