A beloved Wattpad phenomenon is headed to the big screen. Madelaine Petsch (The Strangers, Riverdale) and Gavin Casalegno (The Summer I Turned Pretty) have been cast as leads in the upcoming film adaptation of Chasing Red, one of Wattpad’s most-read English titles with over 261 million online reads.
Directed by Mackenzie Munro and written by Lauren Schacher, Chasing Red follows Veronica, a straight-A student who becomes entangled with campus heartthrob Caleb after a chance encounter—and a complicated, slow-burn romance unfolds when she unexpectedly ends up living under his roof.
The film is produced by Stampede Ventures and WEBTOON Productions, the team behind the After franchise. The story has already found massive success as a novel and popular WEBTOON, boasting more than 24 million views.
International distribution is already underway through Mister Smith Entertainment, with major deals secured across Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and more. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2026 in AlUla, Saudi Arabia.
With a massive built-in fanbase and two rising stars at the helm, Chasing Red is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated YA romance films on the horizon.
