I’m not crying, you’re crying.

On January 11, the Golden Globes awards ceremony took place in Hollywood. KPop Demon Hunters, the hit of the summer from last year, had received three nominations and while the film didn’t sweep all of them (the third nomination, “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement,” was arguably not even something they should be in contention for), they took home two prizes.

“Golden” won “Best Song – Motion Picture,” against “Dream as One” from Avatar: Fire and Ash, “I Lied to You” from Sinners, “Train Dreams” from Train Dreams” and two songs from Wicked: For Good. Receiving the award were EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, Ido, and 24. EJAE was visibly emotional and delivered a heartfelt thank-you speech.

“When I was a little girl, I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fulfill one dream: to become a K-Pop idol. And I was rejected. [I was] disappointed that my voice wasn’t good enough. So I leaned on songs and music to get through it,” she said tearfully. “Now I’m here–as a singer and a songwriter. It’s a dream come true to be part of a song that is helping other girls, other boys, and everyone of all ages to get through the hardship and to accept themselves.

“So, thank you Golden Globes for accepting my voice and our voice.”

KPop Demon Hunters won “Best Animated Motion Picture,” against some strong competition which included Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, Elio, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, Zootopia 2, and Arco.

“Through this film, we really wanted to depict female characters the way we know women which is really strong and bold, really silly and weird, and really hungry for food, sometimes a little thirsty,” Director Maggie Kang said.

“The film is a love letter to music, to the power it has to connect us, to makes see some kind of shared humanity which is what we could use in the world these days,” Director Chris Appelhans said. “We have to thank the fans for embracing the film–it meant everything–and for keeping the Honmoon strong.”

KPop Demon Hunters can be streamed on Netflix.
