KPop Demon Hunters is confirmed for a sequel… but fans will have to wait a few years to see its continuation.

While fans might be disappointed, it shouldn’t be a surprise. Animated films take years to come out and KPop Demon Hunters took around four years to come out with news about the film in development coming out in March 2021. As per Variety, the hit animated musical is aiming for a 2029 release window.

Conceived by director Maggie Kang who wanted to create a film about Korean culture, KPop Demon Hunters is set in a world where, unbeknownst to humans, demons roam the streets, preying on their souls. Humanity has been protected so far because of a select trio of demon-slaying singers. This generation’s Demon Slayers is a world-famous K-Pop girl group named Huntr/x whose ultimate goal is to create a strong barrier called the Honmoon which will prevent the demons from infiltrating the human world. However, complications arise when Huntr/x find their hands full with a demon boy band called the Saja Boys who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

The film features the voice acting talents of Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo who voice Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, respectively, and Ahn Hyoseop, Joel Kim Booster, Alan Lee, SungWon Cho, and Danny Chung as Jinu, Romance, Mystery, Abby, and Baby, respectively. EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami provided the singing voices for Huntr/x and Andrew Choi, Samuil Lee, Kevin Woo, Neckwav, and Chung provided the singing voices for the Saja Boys.

Released on June 20, 2025, KPop Demon Hunters became a huge hit on Netflix, breaking numbers week by week, eventually surpassing the streaming numbers for Season 1 of Squid Game. As of December 2025, it has garnered 500 million views. The film has earned critical acclaim for the animation quality, storytelling, and humor, and earned “Best Animated Feature” at the Critics Choice Awards. KPop Demon Hunters has also earned nominations at the Annie Awards, Satellite Awards, and Golden Globe Awards.

2029 may be far, but at least fans can rewatch the film on Netflix as many times as they want.
