KPop Demon Hunters 2 Officially “Golden,” Set for 2029 Release

KPop Demon Hunters Huntrix HUNTR/X

The girls of HUNTR/X are gearing up for their next battle—this time, the stakes (and stage lights) are even higher.

Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation have officially confirmed that KPop Demon Hunters 2 is in development, with a projected 2029 release date. The sequel will continue the story of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, the demon-fighting K-pop idols who took the world by storm earlier this year.

The announcement comes after months of speculation following the breakout success of the first film, which premiered on Netflix in August 2025. The movie quickly became the platform’s most-watched original animated feature of all time, staying on Netflix’s global Top 10 list for weeks and spawning a dedicated fanbase.

Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, KPop Demon Hunters followed Rumi (voiced by Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo)—three members of the world-famous girl group HUNTR/X, who double as secret demon hunters protecting humanity through music.

The film’s original soundtrack—featuring hits like “Soda Pop,” “How It’s Done,” and the chart-topping “Golden”—became a cultural phenomenon in its own right. The trio of singers behind HUNTR/X’s vocals—Ejae, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna—even performed on The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live, bringing the movie’s electric energy to live audiences.

While plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, the filmmakers have previously hinted at a deeper exploration of HUNTR/X’s origins and mythology. “We were trying to do a non-origin origin story with a concept that’s brand new to people,” Kang told Entertainment Weekly. “There was really not space in the movie to show all that. So we had to make choices about what’s essential—and the rest is something we hope to explore in the future.”

That “future” seems to be now. With KPop Demon Hunters 2 officially “Golden,” fans can look forward to more fierce performances, heart-pounding battles, and emotional revelations about what truly makes these girls the heroes they are.

Until then, you can stream the first movie—and its infectious soundtrack—on Netflix.
