Junji Ito’s iconic horror character Tomie is set to collaborate with Sanrio in a special pop-up store event this December. The pop-up will tour Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka, featuring beloved Sanrio favorites like Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Kuromi.
Tomie originates from Junji Ito’s horror manga of the same name, which follows a beautiful, mysterious woman who is repeatedly murdered by the men obsessed with her—only to regenerate and begin the deadly cycle again. While Tomie often appears to be a victim, she’s equally manipulative and cruel, using her allure to drive others toward madness and violence.
This marks Tomie’s second collaboration with Sanrio. Earlier this year, Junji Ito x Sanrio Characters Acrylic Charms appeared in Gashapon machines across Japan in June, portraying Tomie as a gyaru (gal) alongside Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Pompompurin. In October, an online lottery offered fans prizes such as a double-sided frilled cushion and soft keychains for 950 yen per draw.
Fans of Tomie and Sanrio alike should check out the pop-up store if they’ll be in Japan this December.
