It’s been years (okay, one volume) since we’ve seen Joyful Reunion‘s Wuling, but the two have reunited for Vol. 4.
Seven Seas revealed the fourth volume cover of Joyful Reunion where Duan Ling stands beside Wu Du. Both are armed with their respective weapons–Duan Ling with his bow and arrow and Wu Du with his sword–as they gaze off into the open space. Designing the cover for the fourth volume is Porridge with Ruthie providing the interior illustrations. Mimi, Suika, and yunyun translated the series with a special acknowledgement to Foxghost.
Written by Fei Tian Ye Xiang, or Arise Zhang, Joyful Reunion follows Duan Ling, a young boy who has been abused and mistreated ever since he can remember. One day, a mysterious man named Lang Junxia arrives at his deceased mother’s family’s home, claiming that Duan Ling’s father, whom he has never known, had sent him… and that he would be able to finally meet his father. It turns out that Duan Ling’s destiny is far greater than he imagined–one that carries the weight of the empire on his shoulders.
The publisher describes the Vol. 4 synopsis as below:
Fresh from the imperial examinations, Duan Ling volunteers to journey to the northern city of Ye, where the empire’s border is under threat of a Mongol invasion. Accompanying him is Wu Du, tasked with rebuilding the city’s ragtag garrison into a force capable of holding Ye through the winter. When Duan Ling arrives, however, he discovers that the Mongol army is led by none other than his childhood friend, Borjigin Batu. The grown-up Batu is nothing like the boy Duan Ling remembers—and now, to prove himself to his own people, Batu must capture the very city Duan Ling has sworn to defend.
While Duan Ling and Wu Du brace for Batu’s attack, back in the capital, suspicions mount around the false crown prince. As the empire’s most feared assassins vanish from the capital one after another, more than one person begins to wonder: What deadly secret could draw all Four Great Assassins to the north?
The fourth volume of Joyful Reunion comes out on May 19.
