I See You Creator Talks Inspiration Behind Webcomic

I See You Manta

Despite I See You ending in 2024, the manhwa strangely never had an author’s note–a chapter where the creators give some insight into their story and answer some fan questions. Thankfully, the creator has uploaded that final send-off chapter on their Instagram.

I See You was inspired by a cemetery visit to Pixel’s aunt and it wasn’t until the memorial ceremony where the family left the door open to “welcome her soul in” that it felt like the creator’s aunt was there with them. “I imagined her having a good meal with us,” the creator wrote.

Pixel also offered some early concept artwork for the characters including Seowoo and shared that out of all the characters, they felt Gwakil was the hardest and longest to draw due to the development of his story arc. Pixel also shared details about Sunwoo’s, the grim reaper who saved Seowoo in the first chapter, death since the cause was never revealed in the main story.

The story ends with hope and Seowoo finally moving on in her life and choosing to live. Eventually and inevitably, Seowoo will eventually die, and fans were wondering who would guide her, Taehyun, and Siwoo when their time would come.

“If they don’t end up being a grim reaper and reach the end in peace,” Pixel wrote, “I believe Sunwoo will be the one to guide them.

The story of I See You begins grimly with Seowoo getting ready to jump off a bridge. Before she can end her life, a grim reaper appears and makes her a deal: live for three more months and if Seowoo decides that she’s really had enough, then the grim reaper will personally escort her into the afterworld. Though perplexed, Seowoo agrees to the grim reaper’s strange conditions but she did not expect that she would have to play host to not just one but three grim reapers who have decided to live at her home.

I See You launched on Manta on March 11, 2022 and spanned 49 chapters before concluding on December 9. Since then, Pixel has started a new series called Holistic which made its debut on WEBTOON Originals on November 26, 2025.

I See You is available to read on Manta.
