Dedicated student Yoon Gamin is coming back to school.
As per Naver, Hwang Minhyun, who starred as Yoon Gamin, has confirmed that he will reprise his roll in the second season of Study Group. Hwang was recently discharged from the military in December 2025 and Study Group Season 2 will be his first project since his enlistment. There has been no word on when they will begin filming other than that the second season was in the “early stages of planning.”
As translated by Soompi, the production team has offered some hints as to what viewers will see in Season 2, saying there will be new sides to Yoon Gamin, “such as the reason he wanted so badly to be good at studying and the dilemmas he faces, as well as even more spectacular action.”
In Season 1, Hwang starred alongside Han Ji Eun, who played Lee Hankyung, a temp teacher who supports his newly created study group. Lee Jonghyun, Shin Suhyun, Yoon Sangjeong, and Gong Do-hyun joined as Kim Sehyun, Lee JIwoo, Choi Heewon, and Lee Jun–students who decide that they want to be part of the study group. The first season premiered on January 23, 2025 with 10 episodes.
Written by Shin Hyungwuk and illustrated by Ryu Seungyeon, Study Group premiered on the English WEBTOON platform on November 13, 2021. The series is part of the Blue String Universe, a webtoon universe from YLAB, not dissimilar to the MCU’s multiverse concept. WEBTOON describes the synopsis:
Nicknamed the “school for future criminals,” Yusung Technical High School isn’t exactly the ideal place to study. A rarity among his peers, Gamin is a student with just one goal: to get into university. At a school where it’s every man for himself, he is rejected from countless study groups before he decides to form his own. The drama has earned nominations at a few awards ceremony including “Best New Actor” for Cha Woomin at the Baeksang Arts Awards and “Best OTT Original” at the Global OTT Awards.
