Heaven Official’s Blessing S2 Shares First Look of Green Ghost Qi Rong
Xie Lian’s cousin Qi Rong will make his debut in Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 2 on Oct. 18.
Heaven Official’s Blessing fans can catch a first look at Xie Lian’s troublesome cousin Qi Rong before Season 2 premieres.
In the countdown leading up to the Season 2 premiere of Heaven Official’s Blessing, the official social media account of the popular danmei donghua revealed the character visual for Qi Rong. Qi Rong is the maternal cousin of Xie Lian and has since become the menace known as one of the Four Great Calamities. Aptly named the Green Ghost, Qi Rong wears green robes, fingernails painted green to match and has a slightly crazed light in his eyes. Skulls adorn his robes, evoking a dangerous aura.
Based off the best-selling novel series written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, Heaven Official’s Blessing received a donghua adaptation with Li Haoling as the director. The story follows a thrice-ascended god named Xie Lian who unravels the mysteries of his past from 800 years ago when he meets a red-robed man named Hua Cheng who has been waiting for Xie Lian for a long time.
Jiang Guangtao voiced Xie Lian in Season 1 with Ma Zhengyang voicing Hua Cheng, but Heaven Official’s Blessing has since revealed Jiang would not return for Season 2 due to “personal reasons.” Jiang was arrested for misappropriating approximately $2 million of public funds in late 2022, resulting in his studio Houlang Studio terminating their contract with him. Ding Youxi will voice Xie Lian in Season 2. Luhan performs the opening theme song “怜城辞,” with Tan Jing performing the ending theme song “归于尘.”
Season 2 will follow Xie Lian as he travels deep into the Ghost City, the dangerous realm ruled by one of the Four Great Calamities, Hua Cheng who has people quaking in their boots when they hear his moniker Crimson Rain Sought Flower. The youth who stayed with him for a night had long disappeared, leaving behind only a silver ring on a necklace chain, but Xie Lian may reunite with him sooner than he may think.
Heaven Official’s Blessing premieres its second season on Oct. 18 on Crunchyroll.
