Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to you from Heaven Official’s Blessing‘s Xie Lian and Shi Qingxuan.
Sept. 29 is Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival, and is a traditional festival celebrated in Chinese culture. To celebrate the occasion, the official Heaven Official’s Blessing social media account uploaded a new video featuring Xie Lian and Shi Qingxuan. In the clip, fans will see Xie Lian’s bafflement at seeing the Wind Master in his male form. The two travel down to the Ghost City where Lang Qianqiu is causing a disruption at the gaming table.
An adorable chibi illustration of the two sitting in a boat has also been revealed. Rabbit lanterns along with other traditional lanterns hang above them as Xie Lian and Hua Cheng observe the moon. Floating behind them on a leaf is the fox and ferret version of the couple. Behind them, reflected in the water is the younger versions of the two, Hong Hong-er and the Crown Prince of Xianle.
Based on the New York Times-bestselling series written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, Heaven Official’s Blessing received a donghua adaptation in October 2020 which premiered on Funimation. The donghua aired for 11 episodes with a special episode premiering, quite appropriately on Feb. 14, 2021. A second season has been announced and will air in October 2023.
The first season followed Xie Lian who descends into the mortal realm to investigate a ghost bride case after incurring a debt of 8.88 million merit credits for accidentally destroying a part of the heavenly realm. Xie Lian, once the darling of the heavens, is now the laughingstock of all three realms and has been twice banished and thrice ascended. When he lands in the mortal realm, he is greeted by a man in resplendent red robes who appears to have been waiting for Xie Lian for a long time.
Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 1 is available to stream on Crunchyroll. Season 2 will premiere on Oct. 18 (Oct. 19 for the international audience). The final volume of the novel, published by Seven Seas Entertainment, will release in November 2023.
