2025 was a good year for queer romance.

Heated Rivalry, the hottest new show in 2025, and 10Dance, whose popularity was admittedly overshadowed by the former’s popularity, have secured nominations at the 37th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Heated Rivalry was nominated for “Outstanding New TV Series” while 10Dance was nominated for “Outstanding Film – Streaming or TV.”

The list of nominees for Outstanding New TV Series can be seen below:

The list of nominees for Outstanding Film – Streaming or TV can be seen below:

For Heated Rivalry, this nomination is significant due to the nature of its production. As the show is a Canadian production (Crave) and was merely only picked up for streaming in the US by HBO Max, it won’t be eligible for some awards like the Emmy’s as it was not jointly produced by a US studio. Actors Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie will also be shut out of some nominations due to the fact that it’s a Canadian production, with Williams ineligible for American acting nominations and Storrie ineligible for Canadian acting nominations.

Based on Rachel Reid’s book, Heated Rivalry follows the secret romance between rival hockey players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Initially starting as a casual relationship where the two would occasionally meet up to have sex whenever they play each other, their relationship gradually develops into something more–a change neither of them anticipated. Jacob Tierney directed, wrote, and produced the adaptation.

Based on Inouesatoh’s manga, 10Dance follows ballroom dancer Shinya Sugiki who trains with Latin dance champion Shinya Suzuki to prepare for the 10Dance competition. Their “professional” relationship turns into a romantic one as they practice and train together. The film was helmed by Keishi Otomo with Ryoma Takeuchi as Suzuki and Keita Machida as Sugiki.

The GLAAD Awards recognizes and honors different branches of media including films, shows, artists, podcasts, video games, and Broadway productions for their outstanding portrayal of LGBTQIA2S+ people. The ceremony will take place on March 5.

Heated Rivalry can be streamed on Crave/HBO Max while 10Dance is available on Netflix.
