Hana Kimi Creator Hisaya Nakajo Dies at Age 50
Hana Kimi’s creator Hisaya Nakajo has passed away due to a heart condition. She was 50 years old.
Hisaya Nakajo, the creator of the beloved manga series Hana Kimi, has tragically passed away.
Nakajo died on Oct. 12, 2023 at the age of 50 due to a heart condition. Nakajo was born in the Osaka prefecture on Sept. 12, 1973 and made her debut onto the professional manga creators scene by winning at the 18th Hakushensha Athena Newcomers’ Awards for Manatsu no Hanzaisha. Her first major work as a a mangaka was a one-shot titled Hāto no Kajitsu in 1994.
Nakajo quickly arose to fame when she published the romance manga series Hana-Kimi in September 1996. The series ran in the magazine Hana to Yume from launch until August 2004 with 23 volumes. The English version is available on Viz Media. Due to its enduring popularity, the series spawned several adaptations with the Taiwanese version airing in 2006. Two Japanese adaptations aired in 2007 and 2011 with the most recent one, a Korean adaptation, in 2012.
