“JAPAN!” is what fans will be saying when they see Haikyuu!!‘s Hinata and Kageyama’s monument.

As per Sentabi, Haikyuu!!‘s very own Hinata and Kageyama has been appointed as the first “Special Tourism Ambassadors” of Sendai City, which is where Haikyuu‘s story is set in. A monument of Hinata and Kageyama will be built and placed at Kamei Arena Sendai on Aug. 19 (which is Haikyuu!! day), using the design created by Haruichi Furudate. The monument will stand at 2.19 m tall and 1.41 m wide.

The commissioning and unveiling ceremony will take place on Aug. 19 from 11 AM to 11:20 AM JST where the deputy editor-in-chief of Weekly Shōnen Jump will attend along with the mayor of Sendai. Some commemorative gifts will go on sale from Aug. 19 to 24. Hinata and Kageyama’s monument will mark the inauguration of the “Special Tourism Ambassadors”where manga/anime characters connected to Sendai City are commissioned to promote the city to tourists.

Written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate, Haikyuu!! ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2012 to July 2020. The story follows Shoyo Hinata, a short high school student who dreams of becoming the best volleyball player ever. Hinata manages to round up a team in middle school but their first and last game ends in devastating defeat at the hands of Tobio Kageyama, a genius setter. Hinata vows to beat Kageyama but is shocked when he arrives at Karasuno High School and finds Kageyama on the same side of the net as him, as his teammate. Haikyuu!! has over 55 million copies in circulation as of August 2022 and is one of the best-selling manga series.

An anime adaptation, produced by Production I.G, released its first season in September 2014 and has four seasons. Announced on Aug. 13, 2022, a two-part final film will serve as the conclusion to the series, adapting over 100 chapters. Haikyuu!! Festa will take place on Sept. 24, kicking off the two-part film.

All four seasons of Haikyuu!! are available on Crunchyroll.
