Gudetama Posts Incredibly Relatable Tweet
Sanrio’s lazy egg Gudetama shared a tweet that will have everyone collectively saying, “Mood.”
The tweet reads, “I still want to rest” in Japanese and accompanies a chaotic doodle of a very frazzled sunny-side-up egg that looks sick of life. The anthropomorphized egg’s message seemed to resonate deeply with fans, with replies and quote tweets including comments like, “Me too” and “I understand.“
It should be no surprise that so many find Gudetama and its message so relatable, considering Sanrio designer Amy created Gudetama in 2013 specifically to appeal to millennials who are tired of life. Amy’s inspiration for creating Gudetama occurred when she was preparing dinner for herself one night and realized that the yolk of a recently cracked egg resembled the youth of today — tired. Gudetama’s name is a portmanteau of the words for lazy and egg, and as of 2019, the lazy egg was Sanrio’s third most popular character, following Hello Kitty and My Melody.
