Neon Genesis Evangelion may be famous for its heavy themes of loneliness, trust, and human connection, but its latest collaboration brings a surprisingly wholesome twist. Sanrio’s cutest icons—including Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, and Kuromi—are teaming up with the Eva pilots in a brand-new merch line.
Each pilot gets a Sanrio buddy: Shinji pairs with Cinnamoroll, Rei with My Melody, Asuka with Pompompurin, Kaworu with Kuromi, and Mari with Hangyodon. The characters even swap accessories—Shinji and friends don Sanrio ears and headbands, while the Sanrio cast suits up in Eva plugsuits.
The collection features pins, keychains, acrylic standees, and more, including crossover emblems with NERV and Seele. Hello Kitty also cosplays as Rei and Asuka and even joins forces with Eva Unit-01, while Sanrio characters “befriend” the Angels in their own adorable keychain form.
The merch will be available starting October 4, with blind-buy gacha items and full sets for collectors. Fans in Tokyo can also grab select pieces at the Toppa Base Akiba shop inside Akihabara Station through October 30.
