Chainsaw Man’s Reze Receives Her Own Movie, Key Visual
Chainsaw Man’s Reze is getting the attention she deserves: the anime will adapt the “Reze Arc” in a movie.
Chainsaw Man continues with a new movie.
The critically-acclaimed series Chainsaw Man has announced the “Reze Arc” will be adapted into a movie, titled Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, at Jump Festa 2024. An official teaser has revealed, accompanied by a pensive, edging almost ominous, soundtrack. Colour spills onto the illustration of Reze, bringing the mysterious girl to life. A white flower falls onto the background of a bloodied Chainsaw Man with his back to the audience. Scenes of Reze and Denji together litter the announcement video, hinting what the movie will adapt. No other details have been released other than a key visual of Reze. Studio MAPPA will animate the movie.
Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man received an anime adaptation from Studio MAPPA in October 2022 where it ran for 12 episodes. Despite its immense popularity from the manga, the anime received mixed reception from fans with some enjoying the cinematic approach director Ryū Nakayama took while others believed the creative direction didn’t convey the tone of the manga accurately.
Chainsaw Man released on Weekly Shōnen Jump in December 2018 where its first part was serialized there until December 2020. The first arc focuses on Denji as he adapts to his new life as Chainsaw Man, a Devil who embodies the fear of chainsaws, after his devil dog Pochita sacrifices himself to save him. The manga took a break before jumping into the second arc on Shōnen Jump+ in July 2022 where it focused on a new protagonist named Asa Mitaka. The second arc focuses more on Denji’s existential crisis as he wrestles with his identity as Chainsaw Man and his desire for a normal life.
The manga has over 26 million copies in circulation as of August 2023 and has won numerous awards including the Harvey Award for Best Manga for three consecutive years. Chainsaw Man received praise for its action scenes, complex characters, and dark humour.
Chainsaw Man is available to read on Shōnen Jump+ with the anime on Crunchyroll.
