Chainsaw Man Fan Edit Gives Denji His Beloved Penguin
Every woman Chainsaw Man’s Denji has ever met has tried to kill him, but a penguin would never betray him like that.

Forget Denji and women; the real match made in heaven is Denji and penguin.
A talented animator has brought one scene in Chainsaw Man‘s Chapter 117 “Penguin and Weapon” to life. In the chapter, Denji goes on a first date with Asa, although the latter had less than noble reasons for going out with him. Denji happens across an adorable penguin and immediately picks it up, cooing at how cute it is, all the while Yoru is fighting the Eternity Devil. The animation of the edit is so smooth, many fans have commented that it could rival that of MAPPA’s. The fan took care to add some colour to the background for a realistic touch.
nick_graphics explained in an Instagram story that they remodelled the manga panel with basic shapes where they traced the scene in a program called blender. After, the fan added colours and completed some texture painting, showcasing one panel of parked cars. They continued explaining how they animated the fish by doing “six instances with different timings and spread them on the surface using a hair particle system.” nick_graphics explained how they animated the bushes moving and made the text bubbles pop up.
Written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto, Chainsaw Man is currently one of the most popular manga series with over 23 million copies as of January 2023. The manga is split into two parts with the first part focused on teenage boy Denji who has the ability to turn into a fearsome Devil called Chainsaw Man and follows his exploits as a Public Safety Devil Hunter. Part 1 began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2018 to 2020 before Part 2 moved to Shōnen Jump+ where it introduced a new protagonist named Asa Mitaka who enacts a contract with the War Devil to hunt down Chainsaw Man.
Chainsaw Man updates on a weekly, and sometimes biweekly, basis on Viz Media and Manga Plus. Chapter 122 releases on March 7.
