Talk about whiplash. Somehow in a matter of weeks, we went from flying mecha horses that broke everyone’s knowledge of what Case File Compendium was about to a cover that broke everyone’s hearts… and also Xie Qingcheng.
Seven Seas Entertainment unveiled the ninth volume cover for Case File Compendium: Bing An Ben with He Yu cradling Xie Qingcheng. Blood seeps out of Xie Qingcheng’s blindfolded eyes, matching the rest of the blood on his face and clothes. Will the final cover finally give fans the happy He Yu and Xie Qingcheng they’ve been longing to see? Wil designed the cover and provided the interior illustrations. Ben Bingham translated the series.

This is Meatbun’s third danmei series after The Husky and His White Cat Shizun and Remnants of Filth and is the first modern/sci-fi series they’ve written. The story follows rich, handsome, and mentally unstable He Yu who is determined to win the object of his affections’ heart, Xie Xue. Unfortunately for him, what stands in his way is Xie Xue’s brother, Xie Qingcheng who was always once He Yu’s doctor. Xie Qingcheng is the only person who truly understands He Yu and, because of that, is convinced that He Yu is incapable of love.
Seven Seas describes the synopsis of Vol. 9 as below:
The final conflict with the Mandela Syndicate is looming on the horizon, with Xie Qingcheng and He Yu set to reunite with the Dreambreakers and escape the island at last. But Duan Wen suspects more than he’s been letting on, and He Yu’s blood toxin and Xie Qingcheng’s unique physiology are both far too valuable for the Mandela Syndicate’s sinister Great-Grandmother to let them slip out of her grasp so easily.
If the Mandela Syndicate gets their way, He Yu will be rendered an obedient weapon and Xie Qingcheng will become the next vessel for its founder’s horrific experiments. Neither of them is going down without a fight…but will either of them make it out alive?
The penultimate volume of Case File Compendium: Bing An Ben comes out on August 25.
