It’s the calm before the storm–or in this case, the back hug before it all goes wrong.
Seven Seas Entertainment, the leading publisher of danmei in North America, revealed the cover for Vol. 7 of Case File Compendium: Bing An Ben. With the motif of jellyfish surrounding them, He Yu embraces Xie Qingcheng from behind, nuzzling his face into his shoulder. The symbol on the spine ominously features a tombstone with a lily resting on the surface.
Since Vol. 6, Wil has taken over as the cover and interior artist for Case File Compendium after Boki and DanKe, the cover and interior artist, respectively, departed. Boki cited lack of payment and mistreatment by the publisher when it was first discovered that she would not be working on the series after Vol. 5, but later wrote on her X, formerly known as Twitter, account that her dismissal was because of late submissions. DanKe stated that she had stepped away to work on her other projects.
Seven Seas’ synopsis for Vol. 7 is as follows:
The sudden death of He Yu’s father comes as a great shock to Xie Qingcheng…but he soon learns that the ramifications go far beyond grief. The third series written by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou (The Husky and His White Cat Shizun and Remnants of Filth), Case File Compendium is the spiciest series the author has written so far. The story follows rich, handsome, and mentally unstable He Yu who is determined to win the object of his affections’ heart, Xie Xue. Unfortunately for him, what stands in his way is Xie Xue’s brother, Xie Qingcheng who was always once He Yu’s doctor. Xie Qingcheng is the only person who truly understands He Yu and, because of that, is convinced that He Yu is incapable of love.
The seventh volume of the ten-volume series will debut on January 27, 2026.
