The Japanese dub of Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire released a new illustration to celebrate the new year. The couple, Xuan Ji and Sheng Lingyuan, are inside with the former holding what looks like a bun of a bird while the latter sips his tea leisurely. The overall atmosphere is cozy, evoking a soft and comfortable vibe.
Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire (Lie Huo Jiao Chou) combines urban fantasy and mythology. The story follows Xuan Ji, a millennial who starts a new job at the Reparations Department of the Deviant Control Office and meets Sheng Lingyuan, a mysterious man who had died long ago and was inexplicably summoned back to the mortal world. As the two work together to unravel the mystery behind Sheng Lingyuan’s return, the two discover they share a past rife with conspiracy.
A donghua adaptation aired in October 2021 and finished in December with 12 episodes with no announcement of a second season as of this article’s publishing. The Japanese dub airs on Jan. 8, 2024. Rosmei has licensed the novel which will release in 2024.
