Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kōjō Unleashes Dynamic Trailer
The main trailer of MAPPA’s first original film Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kōjō has just dropped!
MAPPA’s original film Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kōjō has unveiled the trailer ahead of its September premiere.
The trailer opens with the protagonist Masamune craning his neck to look at a girl from atop a building. The sky splinters and splits apart, much to the residents’ surprise. The same cracks appear in some people before they disappear in a powerful burst of dust. Miyuki Nakajima’s haunting theme song “Shin-on” exudes an air of mystique and gentleness. Mari Okada will direct and write the film and is credited for the original work.
Tadashi Hiramatsu will oversee the film as the assistant director with Yuriko Ishii serving as the character designer and chief animation director. Kazuki Higashiji will direct the art and Masaru Yokoyama will compose the music. According to Anime News Network, Okada personally asked Nakajima to perform the theme song, confusing the latter as she had very little knowledge about anime or games and has never performed a theme song for an anime or a game. Nakajima agreed after reading Okada’s script and composed the song specifically for Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kōjō.
The announcement also came with an updated cast. Taku Yashiro (To Your Eternity and Chainsaw Man) will voice Daisuke Sasakura while Tasuku Hatanaka (My Hero Academia and Sk8 the Infinity) will portray Atsushi Nitta. Daiki Kobayashi (The Ancient Magus’ Bride) voices Yasunari Semba, Ayaka Saito (Fruits Basket) as Yūko Sonobe, Maki Kawase (Zombie Land Saga) as Hina Hara, Yukiyo Fujii (I Want to Eat Your Pancreas) as Reina Yasumi and Setsuji Satoh (Yurei Deco) as Mamoru Sagami.
Junya Enoki will voice 14-year-old Masamune Kikuiri with Reina Ueda voicing Atsumi Sagami, Masamune’s clasmate. Misaki Kuno will voice Itsumi, a mysterious girl who appears unable to talk. Previously, Koji Seto has been confirmed to portray Akimune Kikuiri, Masamune’s father. Kento Hayashi will voice Tokimune Kikuiri, Masamune’s uncle who works at a steel mill alongside Masamune’s father.
Set in a quiet town where time has stopped due to an explosion at a steelworks factory, Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kōjō follows 14-year-old middle school student Masaume who is led to the aforementioned steelworks factory by Atsumi. When the two arrive, they meet a wild, almost wolf-like girl who is unable to talk. Little do they know, the meeting of the three children is enough to unbalance the world and set them on a course of destruction.
Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kōjō premieres on Sept. 15.
