Haikyuu!!’s Oikawa Puzzles Karasuno in Online Escape Game with Original Story

All those polls proclaiming Haikyuu!!‘s Oikawa as a villain may have been onto something.

As reported by Crunchyroll, Haikyuu!! will collaborate with SCRAP, the creators behind anime-themed Real Escape Games for an online escape game called “Escape from the Trials of the Great King.” The Great King, in question, is the one and only venerable Tooru Oikawa, the captain and setter of Aoba Johsai, who has created a puzzle for the Karasuno players to solve. The game will include an original story with the voice actors from the anime returning to record new lines.

Fans will need to order one of two kits. The normal kit includes a Karasuno High School bag at costs 3,400 yen while the deluxe kit includes an acrylic diorama with the Karasuno players as crows in Sherlock Holmes-esque costumes. The pre-order sales begin on May 31. The escape game begins on June 20.

Haikyuu!!, written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate, is one of the most popular sports manga of all time. The series follows Shoyo Hinata who, after witnessing Karasuno High School’s “Little Giant,” dreams of becoming a great volleyball player. While possessing great athleticism and speed, Hinata still has a long way to go in terms of improving his skills. With the help of his teammates at Karasuno including his partner, the prodigy setter and rival, Tobio Kageyama, Hinata aims to soar higher and higher.

The series inspired a successful anime adaptation with Production I.G. at the helm. The first season aired in April 2014, the second in October 2015 and the third season in October 2016. Four years passed before Season 4 premiered in January 2020. Haikyuu!! announced the series would wrap up with a two-part film with a kick-off event occurring in August 2023.
