While a second season doesn’t appear to be in store for Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, fans can revisit the story in the form of a webcomic.

According to Manga Mogura RE, via Naver, the 2016 K-Drama Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo will receive a webtoon adaptation. Produced by IMXTOON, the series debuts on June 30 on KakaoPage and Naver Series. Man-oh will illustrate the illustrations for the webtoon. The webtoon will update weekly every Friday.

It appears as though Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo will be the start of a line of drama-to-webtoon adaptations. An official from the MBC IP Strategy Team said they planned on creating a cycle of content through webtoon adaptations and possibly audio drama adaptations. The Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo webtoon is expected to not diverge from the storyline in the drama.

Despite premiering in November 2016 for 16 episodes, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo has become one of the K-Drama classics that is still popular after seven years. Its coming-of-age themes have resonated with youth when it aired and still pervades to today. The drama revolves around Kim Bok-joo, a naturally gifted and outgoing weightlifter who goes to an athletics college to pursue her dream of being a world-class weightlifter. Bok-joo develops a crush on Jung Jae-Yi but soon finds herself falling in love with her childhood friend, and younger brother of Jae-Yi, Jung Joon-Hyung. The drama stars Lee Sungkyung as Kim Bok-joo, Nam Joo-hyuk as Jung Joon-hyung and Lee Jae-yoon as Jung Jae-yi. Lee won the Excellence Award, Actress in a Miniseries and Nam Joo-hyuk the Best New Actor award at the 35th MBC Drama Awards.
