Unknown the Series Releases Heart-Wrenching 11-Minute Trailer

Unknown the Series is ratcheting up to be a drama that will tug at the heartstrings.

Youku released a long trailer, spanning 11 minutes, for the upcoming live-action adaptation of priest’s novel Dage. The trailer summarizes the premise, weaving a tale of heartache. The trailer showcases Wei Qian’s first time meeting Xiaoyuan and the growing bond between the two, culminating in Xiaoyuan confessing his feelings to Wei Qian. The drama will also feature a four-year time leap where Xiaoyuan will study abroad before returning home, his feelings no less strong.

Produced by TURE LOVE MEDIA LIMITED, Unknown the Series will star Chris Chiu and Xuan as Wei Qian and Wei Xiaoyuan, respectively. Chiu is a member of a boyband named JPN and has acted in a few films and television series. Xuan has also acted in several television series and participated in the idol competition Youth with You. Tammy Lin will play the younger sister Wei Li Li. Kingston Kim plays Tan Yu. Jiang Rui Zhi (We Best Love) will direct the series.

Xuan said Unknown the Series was unlike any other BL he knew out there, saying it had quite a number of profound stories. “I really like Xiaoyuan’s determination and how he’s not the type to give up easily when it comes to things that he likes. When things get tough, he’ll grit his teeth and bear with it. This determination has filtered into my own personality and is shining brightly within me.”

As for Chiu, he had portrayed more lively characters who were often quite direct with how they’re feeling, but the actor said the director hoped he could suppress his emotions inside his heart and instead allow the audience to feel Wei Qian’s emotions through his actions and expressions.

Written by Priest (Sha Po Lang, Mo Du, Lie Huou Jiao Chou), Dage revolves around the relationship between Wei Qian and Wei Xiaoyuan. Wei Qian, who was orphaned at a young age, originally lived with his half-sister before he picked up another street child and gave him the name Xiaoyuan. Having grown up with nothing, Wei Qian dreams of nothing else but making money and carving out a name for himself in the world. Just as things seem to have taken a turn for the better, Xiaoyuan goes off the rails.

There is currently no official English license of the novel Dage. Unknown the Series premieres on Feb. 24 on Youku International.
