True Beauty Drops Surprise Anime Announcement
True Beauty is getting an anime adaptation.
It’s true, alright: True Beauty will have an anime adaptation.
Announced at Anime NYC, True Beauty will receive an anime adaptation in 2024. The anime series will stream on Crunchyroll in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS and India. Information around the studio, staff details, and voice actors have yet to be revealed, as of this article’s publishing.
Based on the hit webtoon, True Beauty was written and illustrated by Yaongyi and began publishing on Naver Webtoon in April 2018 before wrapping up the story in June 2023. The webtoon, on the English platform, has garnered more than 825 million views as of January 2022. The series first inspired a Korean live-action adaptation in December 2020 starring Moon Gayoung as Lim Jugyeong, Cha Eunwoo as Lee Suho, and Hwang Inyoup as Han Seojun. The live-action has seen a number of changes, diverting from its canon material.
True Beauty follows Lim Jugyeong who has always been ridiculed and bullied by her family and peers for being “ugly.” Determined to escape her past, Jugyeong throws herself into learning how to do her makeup by watching tutorials online. When she transfers to a new school, she suddenly becomes the centre of attention due to her new look. Soon after, her real face gets discovered by two of the most popular girls at school: Lee Suho, who aims to be a culinary chef, and Han Seojun, a solo K-Pop artist who inexplicably hates Suho.
True Beauty is available to read on WEBTOON.
