Solo Leveling Demonstrates Process of Leveling Up in Documentary

The two-episode documentary about Solo Leveling’s journey in becoming the most popular webtoon and anime series is out now.

The hit series Solo Leveling will release a two-episode special documentary called The Leveling of Solo Leveling.

The documentary will feature the collaboration between Crunchyroll and the French production company Allso. The Leveling of Solo Leveling will chronicle the journey from novel to webtoon to anime and feature interviews with production staff and fans. The documentary released on March 4.

Divided into two episodes, the first episode called “A Hunter Rises” travels to Korea and focuses on how the novel, written by Chugong, turned into a webtoon series. The episode will feature interviews with Redice, the studio responsible for publishing the webtoon adaptation. Episode 2 “Second Awakening” takes viewers to Japan and right inside A-1 Pictures and Aniplex studios where they’ll meet the producers and anime director. The second episode will also include interviews with Crunchyroll staff to discuss how they managed to push Solo Leveling to even greater heights.

Solo Leveling, the original novel written by Chugong and the webcomic adaptation by DUBU, remains one of the most popular action webcomics. The story follows Sung Jinwoo’s journey of becoming the strongest Hunter in the world after he accepts the System’s offer in becoming a Player following his near-death experience. He soon gets thrown into a war against the Monarchs as the powerful beings seek to wipe out the human race. The webcomic ran from March 2018 to December 2021. 

Produced by A-1 Pictures, Shunsuke Nakashige will direct Solo Leveling. Noboru Kimura will oversee the project as the head writer with Tomoko Sudo as the character designer and Hiroyuki Sawano as the composer. Taito Ban will voice Sung Jinwoo (renamed to Shun Mizushino in the anime for Japanese broadcast), Reina Ueda will voice Cha Hae-In (renamed to Shizuku Kosaka in the anime for Japanese broadcast), Hiroki Touchi will voice Baek Yoonho (renamed to Taiga Shirakawa in the anime for Japanese broadcast), Genta Nakamura will voice Yoo Jinho (renamed to Kenta Morohishi in the anime for Japanese broadcast), Daisuke Hirakawa will voice Choi Jong-In (renamed to Shin Mogami in the anime for Japanese broadcast), Banjou Ginga will voice Go Gunhee (renamed to Kiyoomi Gotō in the anime for Japanese broadcast) and Makoto Furukawa will voice Woo Jinchul (renamed to Akira Inukai in the anime for Japanese broadcast). K-Pop band TOMORROW X TOGETHER will collaborate with acclaimed composer Hiroyuki Sawano, using his alternate name SawanoHiroyuki[nZk], for the opening theme song “LEveL.” krage performs the ending theme song “request.”

Crunchyroll released the documentary on March 4 and is available to stream on its platform. The anime is currently streaming on the same platform.
